Navman Cradle

Project Objectives

Navman needed to strategically maintain a leadership position in the in-car navigation sector.  To help achieve this, InFact was engaged to look at the cradle system with the objectives of reducing the unit cost, enhancing the user experience and permitting a range of Navman ICN products to fit the same cradle.

Our Approach

InFact designed a usability study which investigated the large range of vehicle variations, positional requirements, user capabilities and constraints.

Compliance requirement in the USA were impacting on screen mounted product and a large amount of work was dedicated to understanding how alternatives might work.

With a clear understanding of the user needs, and an understanding of the range of different electronic connectors, the design was completed and the supply chain established.

Outcomes

The cost tagets for the product were successfully met.  Navman also secured a patent for the new easy push-pull cradle attachment mechanism, which clearly set them apart from their competitors.
