Connexionz Bus Stop
Project Objectives
The Connexionz bus fleet management system wanted the ultimate feedback product for passengers waiting on the roadside. Requirements included having a small communications overhead, severe environmental and vandal resistance, and no cables at installation. The electronic bus sign was a going to be a good challenge!
Our Approach
In collaboration with Connexionz, InFact produced a requirement specification, documenting the need for a battery powered product in a bullet proof enclosure that could be mounted onto existing poles or shelters.
InFact oversaw the customisation of the GUI for each unit, with accompanying installation code. The vehicle technology was designed to run in ‘urban canyons’ where GPS is less reliable and across an extreme range of environmental conditions.
First off-tool prototypes were extensively tested using an environmental test chamber and a tough impact test, before they were signed off for production.
Outcomes
The system is now sold in the USA, UK, NZ and Australia. Its low cost and higly reliable performance has enabled local authorities to achieve up to 85% improvements in bus utilisation and that’s prior to oil price hikes!
